BRAND STORY
In collaboration with Korea’s master craftsmen, who are dedicated to preserving and evolving our
cultural heritage, we reinterpret traditional Korean architecture through modern technology to create
spaces that connect people and nature.
In 1998, driven by a mission to benefit the world through technology, I founded an IT company, which now operates in more than 90 countries worldwide. Throughout this journey, my work has been guided by two key ideas.
The first is the global competitiveness of Korean enterprises. I have long explored how Korean companies could thrive on the international stage and continuously worked to create new markets and sustainable business models.
The second is the essence of the digital and the analog. While the digital world recreates reality in virtual form, working within it often left me yearning for tangible, analog spaces. This longing inspired me to create a physical space that offer comfort.
This vision led me to hanok, the symbol of traditional Korean architecture. Hanok embodies harmony between nature and humanity, and stands as one of Korea’s most valuable architectural assets. I became determined to modernize hanok, which had remained largely unchanged for centuries, demonstrate its value as one of the world’s finest architectural forms, and guide its evolution. This commitment led to twelve years of research and development, culminating in the creation of The Hanok Heritage.
The Hanok Heritage represents a space I personally envisioned after years of studying architectural design. My team and I developed proprietary techniques to address challenges such as wood drying, and we traveled throughout Korea in search of a site where the true value of hanok could be fully realized. Ultimately, we discovered the perfect site in Yeongwol, where the natural landscape unfolds in every direction. Here, a river curves gracefully around the land in a sweeping arc, while layered mountains form a panoramic backdrop. The hanok was designed to embrace this environment, allowing the beauty of nature to be enjoyed from every angle.
The Hanok Heritage offers an experience in which guests can connect with nature in a space that embodies harmony between humanity and the natural world, while enjoying warm hospitality and genuine rest. However, this is just the beginning. Looking ahead, we plan to bring hanok to New York, Paris, and beyond, and establish Korea’s traditional architecture as a global cultural asset. We remain committed to embracing new challenges so that this heritage may endure as a living cultural legacy, even a thousand years from now.
As the leader of K-Architecture, I hope to see hanok shine as a cultural beacon across the world.
